The EMotion company Owner Edwin Weindorfer spoke highly of Rafael Nadal in an interview to TennisNet. Weindorfer is the Tournament Director at the Stuttgart’s Mercedes Cup and is an organizer in ATP Mallorca and Viennas, WTA Berlin.
“Rafa in Stuttgart helped us a lot, in our first tournament (2007) and then on the first year on clay”, said Weindorfer. “Wimbledon is our partner. And they are also interested in improving the grass-court season.
So we got WTA Mallorca. But we’d better hold an ATP event there which will happen next year. We will try to bring Rafael Nadal there in the next few years. He may want to be the Tournament Director. He may play there next year.”
On picking Barbara Rittner as a WTA Berlin Tournament Director, Weindorfer added: “She is the head of women’s German tennis. For me she was always the main candidate. We already signed Angelique Kerber. It will be the biggest women’s tournament in Germany with Porsche Grand Prix of Stuttgart.
Barbara Rittner fits to it a lot.” Asked if Vienna may replace a Masters 1000, Weindorfer replied: “Why someone like Prince Albert should sell Monte Carlo tournament? Why Larry Ellison should sell Indian Wells? They do not need money.
Also, ATP needs to agree. There is not a secret that there were offers from Asia, Abu Dhabi. But ATP did not approve. Rome Masters is held by the Federation, Rogers Cup from Canada too. In Madrid, Ion Tiriac wants a lot of money.”
