Pune: 2 arrested for stealing from city hospital

The Pune City Police has arrested two persons for allegedly stealing X-ray cassettes from Sancheti Hospital in Shivajinagar area.

Police have identified the accused as Mohammed Ali Ismail Shaikh (59), a resident of Wadgaon Maval, and Atadillah Mohammed Jaleel Maniyar (34), a resident of Chikhali.

Sachin Yerunkar (42), a security guard at Sancheti Hospital, lodged the FIR in the case at Shivajinagar police station.

Police said that the theft took place two days ago. After receiving information, a police team led by Sub-Inspector S S Lad of Shivajinagar police station initiated investigation. They scanned the CCTV footage from the hospital and arrested the accused, both of whom are natives of Chennai, on Thursday.

“Probe so far has confirmed Shaikh’s role in the theft. Maniyar has been arrested on suspicion. The court has remanded them to police custody till November 2 for further investigation,” Lad said.

“Shaikh was involved in thefts of X-ray cassettes at five prominent hospitals in the city, including Sancheti Hospital, Wadia hospital, Universal hospital, Bharati hospital and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. He sold some of the stolen items at a hospital in Chennai. We have so far recovered 11 X-ray cassettes worth Rs 6 lakh from his possession,” Lad added.

The police said that four cassettes worth Rs 1.6 lakh were stolen from Sancheti Hospital.
