The first phase of preventive measures against dengue fever ended in the city on Thursday. After work in 10 divisions, which were found badly affected with high mosquito indices, control measures were extended to other divisions too.
For the last 10 days, health workers along with the District Vector Control Unit and the National Health Mission district unit had been conducting house visits.
As many as 265 health teams were on the job. The teams comprised health inspectors, junior health inspectors, field workers, urban junior public health nurses, nursing students, and ASHA workers. They visited 9,405 houses as part of the mission. The teams identified as many as 1,200 houses with dengue mosquito larvae. They also conducted awareness programmes, besides destroying breeding sources.
Meanwhile, the Health authorities are planning to intensify awareness campaigns in the corporation area in the first week of this month. Accordingly, a Mosquito Breeding Source Destruction Day will be observed on November 10. Officials have appealed to all residents to participate in the programme. The District Medical Officer has advised people to examine whether there are conditions acting as breeding resources for mosquitoes.
A source-reduction activity will be held in schools, offices, and hospitals on November 8.
