‘My kids will be at home while I play in South America’

Roger Federer spoke about how it will feel like to face Alexander Zverev in Quito, Ecuador, on Sunday November 24. The Swiss player said: “I am very emotional, I have a chance to go the country for the first time. I have been knowing you for a long time, I heard about the football matches there, the Davis Cup.

The altitude can be a bit complicated, but it will be a chance for me to go there. It’s very exciting, emotional, showing what I can do better which is to play tennis in front of fans. Sometimes you have to set it as a priority like the South American swing in 2012.

You have to do it in a correct way. This year kids are older, they will stay at home with their mother and I will have this incredible tour. I could not be happier playing in front of so many people. Seeing this different atmosphere in every country.

When it’s a new venue, for the first time, everything is unknown. You may be afraid that not the whole stadium is packed or that it’s not as emotional as you expect it to be. That makes me a bit nervous. It’s not like Wimbledon where I played so many times.

Quito will be new.”

“I always eat local food in countries. I remember being in South Korea with Pete Sampras and we tasted different plates. I tried everything, seven of them were extra. I always like to try, it’s one of the things I always wish to. The match with Sascha will be an emotional one.”
