ISL: Unbeaten Goa look to maintain record | Goa News

Panaji: FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera is not a happy man after losing out two key players due to suspensions and is determined to prove a point as their Indian Super League (ISL) campaign resumes after the international break on Tuesday.
Placed third on the points table, FC Goa are one of the three unbeaten teams after four matches and will hope to continue their run when they face Jamshedpur FC at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda.
Lobera will have to do without Seiminlen Doungel and Hugo Boumous, both suspended by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) disciplinary committee for misconduct during their away match against NorthEast United FC.
“The situation is different, but I prefer not to comment on the suspensions. I think we are a strong team and tomorrow it is a good opportunity for us to show this to the people. It is difficult for us, but as a coach I can only work to change the situation. We are building a strong and competitive team,” said Lobera.
That Lobera does not have the luxury of choosing from an additional foreign player needs no reminding. Goa have just six foreign players, and with Boumous now suspended, his hands will be tied again. Interestingly, Goa have not had all their six foreign players available for any game. Edu Bedia was on the bench for the last game against Mumbai City FC, but wasn’t hundred percent fit, according to the coach.
Now, Edu is back and the Spanish midfielder is raring to go.
“All the time I have been out of the squad, but it hasn’t been a problem because the squad is big and have enough quality. The sooner you forget about injuries the faster you get over them,” said Bedia.
Star striker Ferran Corominas has shown no signs of slowing down and has already three goals to his credit. FC Goa can also rely on Jackichand Singh and Manvir Singh in the absence of the two suspended players.
On the other hand, Jamshedpur are not far and only a point behind their opponents in fifth place. Their only win over their opponents in six meetings came last season when they stunned FC Goa 4-1 on their home soil.
“Great teams those win championships often have good squads. Goa are a good team even without the two players also. We face a very difficult team and when we have a break like this you have to start carefully,” said Jamshedpur coach Antonio Iriondo.
Jamshedpur will be keen to get back to winning ways. After picking up seven points from their first three games, Jamshedpur were pushed back by ATK in their previous game.
