FAIZABAD/LUCKNOW: Ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, “worried” Muslims in Ayodhya have asked the district administration to deploy central paramilitary forces in areas with dense population of their community.
The demand was raised by representatives of the Muslim community during a meeting with the Faizabad administration.
“We have full faith in the administration and are confident that it will ensure peace and harmony. But the deployment of central paramilitary forces will give more assurance to the community,” Jamiat Ulema Hind, Ayodhya unit general secretary Hafiz Irfaan told TOI.
SSP Faizabad Ashish Tiwari told TOI, “Police have already been deployed in Muslim-dominated localities and central paramilitary forces will also be deployed soon. Civil police and some CRPF personnel are also keeping strict vigil in Muslim-dominated localities.”
“We have asked Muslims not to panic and assured them that peace will not be disrupted in Ayodhya,” said DM Faizabad Anuj Kumar Jha.
Meanwhile, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has asked his ministers to refrain from making any controversial statements on the Ayodhya verdict. Addressing ministers on Friday ahead of a cabinet meeting, the CM reportedly said that no one should make any “unwarranted comment” on the verdict.
A source in the CM’s secretariat said, “RSS has been holding a series of meetings where it has been telling its cadre to refrain from provocative statements and actions after the verdict. In fact, when the CM went to Ayodhya for the Deepotsav, he met the seer community and asked them to refrain from saying anything controversial that could disturb peace.”
BJP will hold meetings in the coming week to discuss what line the party would take on the verdict, keeping in view all possibilities.
